Happy new Year Michele!
I was trying to find your years' old post about your gas stovetop and see if you had any information about how you installed it. We just found out that we can't use our pots and pans with the induction stove top that we chose, and either we have to switch methods (gas being a leading candidate) or we have to buy new pots and pans (not cheap, either!). I remembered you used a propane tank in your cabinet, and was wondering what you thought about that option? Is it working well? Did you have to "vent" the propane cabinet any special way? How much propnae are you using? Thanks!
Happy New Year to you, too, Emily!
We did use propane with a gas stovetop when we first moved in but have since changed over to an electric stovetop because the gas one was just too much of a PITA to clean. We are so happy with the induction---works a dream and super easy to clean. Alas, we did have to replace many (not all) of our pots and pans, which was a bummer but we found good deals at IKEA for pretty new things. :-) My husband, who does most of the cooking in our house and only ever used gas before moving to Norway, would never go back to gas. He is in love with his induction stovetop.
I can recommend propane, however, if that's the direction you're going in, as we were fairly happy with the way the system worked (just not the stovetop we bought). We set an 11-liter propane tank in the cabinet next to the stove. We didn't vent the cabinet, as we were advised it wasn't *necessary;* if you can easily vent the space, it's probably a good idea. One tank lasted 4 to 5 months with pretty much everyday use. It's very simple to change the tanks, although inconvenient if you forget to check your propane levels and run out of gas in the middle of cooking a meal (happened to us twice).
Hope that helps, Emily. My husband is sitting here saying, "Tell them to go induction!" He really loves his induction. :-)
Come on, carry on posting!
